I have realized that no matter how well-prepared you are, teaching is one of those careers where mid-thought, mid-topic, and mid-sentence, you realize “I have no idea of what I’m doing.” You’re the expert, the teacher, but you have no idea of what you’re doing.
Sometimes, this happens to me. Yes, this happens to the person with a teaching certificate, a bachelor’s degree (with honors swag), and a Fulbright grant. I’ve noticed that as the weeks progress, that my classes are becoming easier to teach and manage. Yet, sometimes I have that moment where I realize “Wait, what am I doing?”
Perhaps that is the beauty of teaching, where one can realize that he or she has no idea what’s going, but still roll with the flow. Maybe that’s it indeed.
